GM in the tank, and they start talking about buying Chrysler? Maybe I'm a bit slow, but I just don't get it.

GM owns 49% of GMAC. Cerberus owns 81% of Chrysler.
What they're considering is having GM swap their GMAC holdings to Cerberus while Cerberus swaps their Chrysler holdings with GM. No stock required.

I think FORD made some mistakes.....but those that pay for it are the 1,000's of workers...not the hundred's of executives that made the mistakes....like moving plant out of the US while Toyota and Honda, Kia, Hyundia, Subaru and others were moving into the US....

I had one of those fix or repair daily fords. But there is one good thing I'ss say about it. It would keep running anyway.
I blew a 3 inch hole in the radiator. Drove 180 miles on a dry radiator when it was 80+ degrees. Car was okey.
My spark plug wires were in bad shape. 2 plugs were still brand new after 50k miles. 2 others barely touched. Was running a 6 cyl car on 4 cyl and sometimes 2 cyl. Ran through the Catskills and Adirondacks. Sometimes would stall out on very long drives. Let it rest, and then it was okey.
Loved the car. A ford Taurus (1986), that I had up to 28 mpg on the highway. Was running great till I hit a telephone pole at 40 mph in the snow. (The car had 150k miles on it.)

Without gas, people cannot buy cars.
Right now, I would not consider FORD or GM as a possible stock purchase, especially since they are talking a possible merger.

I'm not surprised, considering how GM and Ford have fallen way behind in keeping up with the general publics desire for more fuel efficient vehicles. Instead they keep pushing the gas guzzlers in their ads. Sort of like bush, sitting in his office completely out of touch with the little people.

I wonder if the execs over at Ford and GM will finally realize where there arrogance has brought them. Nevermind blaming the current Economic situation or high gas prices, the car buying public has been ignored too long. What is so difficult about just making a normal family car that gets you from point A to point B. Bigger is not better. More Bells and whistles are not required. All the customer ever wanted was good value for their hard earned dollar. If these former behemoths don't come to their senses, the only good thing for their stock certificates, will be for lining Bird Cages.

They would not build what the public wanted, (small economical vehicles) instead they tell the public what they want. The day of truth has arrived. The economy has not helped either..

Government won't let any of the "Big 3" go belly up. If ya have the money to spare I would grab some of their stocks cause for one they can not go too much lower so the only direction is up once people get into their heads that things are going to improve.

American automakers need to step it up as well.. They need to start making the parts in America again. Get Americans their jobs in the factories back. Stop outsourcing customer service reps to the Middle East, let me talk to someone in America!

murphy50.. You hit the nail on the head. Everyone is so quick to say if ford had done this, and ford had done that... It's the American peoples fault..Keep supporting the foreign car markey. You are only hurting Americans when you buy foreign murchandise. I personally have NEVER, not even my first rat-box car, owned anything but an American made car. Support your country, buy MADE IN THE USA on everything, and you will help your own economy start to recover!!!
